Pimp My Pushchair - all hail the Roddler
Mon, May 19, 2008

Here at Best Pram, we thought we’d seen everything the pram world had to offer in terms of high roller strollering. Then along comes the most eye-popping, pimped-up, bad boy design ever seen in the pushchair market.
The Roddler, as this blinged-up beast is known, looks like the designers literally threw the pushchair rule book out of the window, and instead worked with a very simple design brief: create the kind of pushchair 50 cent, Jay-Z or P Diddy would choose for their equally blinged-up, limelight stealing offspring. I’d say they more than succeeded.
With a £1,700 celebrity price tag to match the eye-popping design, the Roddler designers - Kid Kustoms of California - have surely taken inspiration from the West Coast Customs’ boys made famous on MTV’s ‘Pimp My Ride’, with chrome trim fenders and colour-coded rims, not to mention bespoke options of DVD entertainment systems, iPod docks, Bluetooth speakers with computerised displays and - of course - customised paint jobs and leather upholstered bucket seats.
The Roddler can even come with brake lights! Far be it for us to speculate on the decision making process involved in spending what amounts to a the cost of a second hand car on a pram, but I’m guessing that when you’ve ticked all the other bespoke option boxes on the order form, brake lights are a mere afterthought in your bid to create the ultimate luxury liner. “Sure, add the brake lights. Let’s make this baby fly!” Or words to that effect.

For those who thought the pram the celebrities all love to push - the Bugaboo Chameleon and, more recently, the Bugaboo Bee - or even the deliciously kooky Stokke Xplory had cornered the market in stopping traffic, it must surely feel like the world has quite literally turned on its axis. This pram doesn’t so much stop traffic, as cause a multi-vehicle pile up.
Do I like it? I honestly don’t know. I’m no shrinking violet, but I don’t think I’d have the balls to push this baby down the local high street, though I suspect it would be completely at home on Carnaby Street in London. I actually suspect the Roddler will turn out to be the Marmite of pushchairs. And knowing a man who would love it every bit as much as he loves Marmite on his toast every morning, this is one pram review I’ll be keeping to myself until those six winning numbers come up… apart from sharing it with all you fellow pram addicts, of course!
